Discover Your Path to Inner Peace and Divine Connection

The timeless wisdom of Sri Shirdi Sai Baba continues to illuminate the lives of millions across the world. His words โ€” drawn from the “Charters and Sayings” โ€” are described as a manifestation of the Supreme Spirit, akin to how Lord Sree Krishna speaks through the Bhagavad Gita. Whether you seek peace in daily life or deeper spiritual realization, Baba’s teachings offer a path for every soul.

    Divine Promises and Unwavering Protection

Baba’s love for His devotees is unconditional and eternal. He assured us:

    • “My eye of vigilant supervision is ever on those who love me.”
    • “I will not allow my devotees to come to harm.”
    • “In the abode of my devotees, there will be no dearth of food and clothing.”
    • “My tomb will speak and move with those who make me their refuge.”
    • “I will be with you, the moment you think of me, at any place.”

Even the sacred Dwaraka Mayi โ€” Baba’s mosque โ€” wards off all dangers and anxieties, being “highly merciful” to all who seek her shelter.

The All-Pervading Nature of Sai Baba

Baba transcends all form and limitation. He is the embodiment of the Supreme Spirit, living eternally. He said: “I am formless and everywhere โ€” in every bit of the Globe” and “All the universe is in me.” He appeared in all forms to demonstrate His omnipresence to those open enough to see.

    Practical Guidance for Spiritual Growth

Faith and Patience โ€” Nishta and Saburi

Baba’s Guru sought no material gifts โ€” only Faith (Nishta) and Patient, cheerful endurance (Saburi). Saburi, He said, “ferries you across to the distant goal.”

    The Importance of a Guru

“Trust the Guru fully. That is the only sadhana. Guru is all the Gods.”

    Self-Inquiry โ€” Atma Vichara

Baba encouraged us to constantly ask: “Who am I? Who are we?” โ€” to unveil the unity of Jiva and Siva.

    Devotion โ€” Bhakti

Baba proclaimed: “I am the bond slave of my devotees. I love devotion.” He taught the Navavidha Bhakti โ€” nine forms of devotion including listening to sacred works, reciting God’s name, remembrance, meditation, worship, and self-surrender.

    Surrender โ€” Atma Nivedan

Complete surrender involves offering the five senses, five Pranas, Mind, Intellect, and Ego to the Divine. Baba gently invited: “Place your burdens on me.”

    Moral Teachings

Baba emphasized love for all creatures, contentment, non-hatred, patience, and selfless giving โ€” and the importance of conquering the Shadripus: Lust, Anger, Covetousness, Delusion, Pride, and Jealousy.

    Study and Meditation

Baba encouraged reading the Bhagavad Gita, Jnaneswari, Yoga Vasishta, and Rama Vijaya, along with Nama Japa (repetition of “Rama” or “Sai”) and Dhyana (meditation) on His form or as formless Ananda.

    Begin Your Journey Today

Baba’s mission was simple: “My business is to give blessings.” He draws His devotees to Himself โ€” even from thousands of miles away โ€” first through earthly needs, then leading them gently toward the Divine.

“Look to me; I will look to you.”

Explore the teachings, find solace, and deepen your connection with the Divine. The path is open to all โ€” wherever you are, whoever you are.

  • Akhanda Parayan during the Mahasamadhi Utsav

Akhanda Parayan during the Mahasamadhi Utsav

The Akhanda Shri Sai Satcharitra Parayan (continuous reading of the sacred text) is a very significant event that takes place during the annual festival in Shirdi commemorating Sai Baba’s Mahasamadhi (death anniversary).

General information about the Akhanda Parayan during the Mahasamadhi Utsav (Festival):
    * Date of the Mahasamadhi: Shirdi Sai Baba attained Mahasamadhi on the day of Vijayadashami (Dussehra) in 1918. The date changes each year according to the Hindu calendar, but it usually falls in September or October. The Utsav is typically a three or four-day event surrounding the main Mahasamadhi day.
    * Akhanda Parayan Schedule:
ย ย  * The Akhanda Parayan usually starts on the first day of the Utsav.
ย ย  * The reading begins after the Kakad Aarti (early morning aarti) and a procession of Baba’s photo and the Pothi (holy book, Shri Sai Satcharitra) from the Samadhi Mandir to Dwarkamai.
ย ย  * The continuous, uninterrupted reading of the Shri Sai Satcharitra takes place in Dwarkamai (Baba’s Masjid) and continues all day and through the night, as Dwarkamai is kept open.
ย ย  * The Parayan is completed on the morning of the main Utsav day (Mahasamadhi day), after which the Pothi and Baba’s photo are taken back to the Samadhi Mandir in a procession.
    * Participation: Devotees wishing to participate in the Akhanda Parayan, by reading one of the 53 chapters, often have to submit their names a day before the festival begins, and chapters are allotted through a lottery system.
To get the exact dates for the upcoming Akhanda Parayan, you would need to check the official calendar for the Mahasamadhi Utsav for the specific year, which is generally published on the Shri Sai Baba Sansthan Trust (Shirdi) official website as the date gets closer.
For example, in 2025, Sai Baba’s Mahasamadhi Day is on October 2nd (Vijayadashami/Dussehra), and this festival took place on 1st October.

  • During 72 generations that you were with me.

During 72 generations that you were with me.

A woman from Sholapur tried for 27 years to have a child, making prayers to various gods in vain. In her final effort, she and her stepson went to Shirdi and stayed for two months, serving Baba.

Whenever she visited the Masjid, it was crowded, and Baba was always surrounded by people. She wanted to express her feelings, but couldnโ€™t find the right moment to pray to Him for a child. In the end, she asked Shama to speak to Baba for her when He was alone.

Shama told her Baba’s Darbar was open, still he would try for her, hoping the Lord would bless her. ‘She should be ready with a coconut and joss sticks when Baba had His meals. She should also come to Him, when he called’.

One day, after dinner, Shama was wiping Baba’s wet hands with cloth, when Baba playfully pinched his cheek. Pretending to be upset, Shama said, “Deva, is it right to pinch me? We donโ€™t want a mischievous God. Are we Your dependents; is this fruit of intimacy?”

Baba replied, “Oh Shama, during 72 generations that you were with me, I never pinched you until now. Now you resent my touch.”

Shama: “We want a God who always love us and give food; we donโ€™t want reward or heaven. Let our faith unto your feet be awake.” Baba: “Yes, I have come for that. I care for you and love you.”

Then Baba sat down, and Shama signaled to a lady who offered a coconut and joss sticks. Baba shook the dry coconut, and the kernel made noise. He said, “Shama, look how it’s rolling, what does it mean?” Shama replied, “The woman hopes to have a child that rolls and grows in her womb. Please bless her.”

Baba questioned, “Will the coconut give her a child? People are foolish to believe such things!” Shama insisted, “Your blessing will bring her children. You are just wrangling and not giving a real blessing.” They continued to discuss.

Baba wanted to break the coconut, but Shama suggested gifting it to the lady instead. Then Baba agreed, saying, “She will have a child in 12 months.” The coconut was split in two. One half was eaten by Baba and Shama. The other half was given to the lady.

Shama alias Madhav looked at the woman and said, “You will be my witness. If you donโ€™t have a child in a year, I will break a coconut on Deva’s head. If I fail, I wonโ€™t call myself Madhav anymore.”

A year later, she had a son, taken to Baba at five months. The grateful father, Mr. Aurangabadkar, donated Rs.500, which was spent to build a shed for Baba’s home, “Shyamakarna.”

  • Now, How to visualize Baba

    Now, How to visualize Baba

    • Let us remember and visualize Shri Sai, now.
    • Let us go to Shirdi, and see carefully the programmes, after the noon-Arati. After the Arati ceremony was over, Sai used to
      • come out of the Masjid, and
      • standing on its edge,
      • distribute udi to the devotees with
      • very kind and loving looks.
    • The Bhaktas also got up with equal fervour,
      • clasped His Feet, and
      • standing and staring at Him,
      • enjoyed the shower of Udi.
    • Baba
      • passed handfuls of Udi into the palms of the devotees and
      • marked their foreheads with Udi with His fingers.
    • The love He bore for them in His heart was boundless. Then He addressed the Bhaktas as follows:-
      • “Oh Bhau, go to take your lunch;
      • you Anna, go to your lodgings;
      • you Bapu, enjoy your dishes”.
    • In this way He accosted each and every devotee and sent them home.
    • Even now, you can enjoy these sights if you bring into play your imagination. You can visualize and enjoy them.
    • Now bringing Sai before our mental vision, let us meditate on Him, from His Feet upwards to His face, and prostrating before Him humbly, lovingly and respectfully

  • Blessed knows the greatness of his Guru

Blessed knows the greatness of his Guru

Make me the sole object of your thoughts and actions. You will, no doubt, attain Paramartha (the spiritual goal of life).

Look at me whole-heartly; and I, in turn, look at you.

Sitting in this Masjid, I speak the truth, nothing but truth.

No sadhana or proficiency in the six Shastras, is necessary. Have faith and confidence in your Guru. Believe that, Guru is the sole Actor or Doer.

Blessed is he, who knows the greatness of his Guru and thinks him to be Hari, Hara and Brahma (Trimurti -Gods) Incarnate.”

    Sai Baba in SSSC-Chapter 18 & 19.

  • Earlier Years at Shirdi V-Mad Fakir to Hero

Suddenly one day an incident occurred which brought a thorough change in the situation, from obscurity to famous.

Sai Baba was very fond of lights. He used to beg oil from shopkeepers-Banias, and keep lamps burning the whole night in the Masjidย and temple. This went on for some time.

The Banias, who supplied oil gratis, once met together and decided not to give Him oil. When, as usual, Baba went to ask for oil, they all gave Him a distinct No.

Unperturbed, Baba returned to the Masjid and kept the dry wicks in the lamps. The banias were watching Him with curiosity.

Baba took the Tumrel (tin pot) which contained very little (a few drops) of oil, put waterย into it and drank it; and forced it fall in the container. After consecratingย the tin-pot in this way, He again took water in the tin-pot and filled all the lamps with it and lighted them.

To the surprise and dismay of the watching Banias, the lamps began to burn and kept burning the whole night. The Banias repented and apologized.

Baba forgave them, after asked them i) You really had Oil?, ii) if they had not come to the Mosque to enjoy the pain which they expected him? ; and then iii) asked them to be more truthful in future & never again to take pleasure in other’s distress!.

The effect of this incident was marvelous. The contemptible pagal-Mad fakir, as they called him, was turned overnight into the Hero or the weird magician or the holy Sadhu of the place.

  • Earlier Years at Shirdi II-Food & Residence

Baba, noting Mahlsapathy’s attitude, left the place (Khandoba temple), and went to the gode- neem tree, which he used as his halting place off and on. He went about the village and the surrounding lands and had no particular arrangements for food.

Luckily the village head, Ganapat Rao Patil Kothe and his wife Bayaji Bai, were greatly attracted by Baba’s personality, and from the very beginning of his stay there, they undertook to feed him, even when he was running about. Gradually he gave up roaming and then went about the streets, halted at four or five places and from there collected whatever food was brought to him.

For his stay and sleep, the dilapidated mosque of the village was the only place, and it soon became his residence. He was never for wholly deserting society and living in mountain caves and deserts.

  • WATCH AND CURE

    Babaโ€™s loving watch and care

Para Number in the Book & About His Watch and Care

    (I) Dhulia Bahalkar’s boy’s illness

    532. In March 1913, Raoji Balakrishna Upasani Bahalkar’s younger son had high fever for 5 or 6 days.

The doctor gave up hopes. Then R.B.U.ย prayed to Baba.

Baba, appearing at 2a.m. in his room at Dhulia and applying Udhi to the boy said: “Now, have no more anxiety. In two hours, your boy will perspire. In the morning he will feel better. After he gets well, bring him to me.”

In the morning the boy was better. This was about 6-3-1913.

On 8-3-1913 Shama wrote to Raoji, as follows: ‘Baba said, “I have been to your Dhulia friend’s house”. I (Shama) asked. Who is that friend?

B.: ‘Upasani Bahalkar Raoji, I am daily going to his house. You had better write to him.”

Thereforeย ย  I have written this letter’

Fifteen days later, Raoji and his son were going to Shirdi. On the way at Kopergaon, the tonga driver was delaying them.

At Arati time, Baba told Shama : “Sharma, wait a bit for the is Arati to start. Your Dhulia friend is coming. The tonga driver is troubling him. On their arrival in time for receiving prasada.’

(After that) Baba (to the boy): “When you were ill, I came to Dhulia. Do You remember ?”

    (2) Mahalsapathy – Snakes

    533. B: “Bhagat, two serpents are moving about near your house”. Mahalsapathy (who was addressed by Baba as Bhagat, i.e. Bhakta) returning from Dwarkamayi saw one serpent at his own door and another at the potter’s beneath his pillow.

    • 533B. Baba: ‘Bhagat. when you come here to night come with a lamp. You will meet thieves at the village gate.”

Mahalsapathy came that night with a lamp and found a serpent at the gate.

    534. A devotee had gone out in the dusk to ease himself. There he heard the rustle of something. Believing it to be a snake, he hurried back to his quarters.

    Later he met Baba.

B.: “Am I not in the place, where you go to ease yourself? Why do you fear?

    • 534B Mrs.   Manager   i.e.   Mrs   Sadashiv   Tarkad  of Poona  being saved  from  treading  on  a  snake,  merely by intuition.

    Abhyam to Mirikar-Snake

535A.   Mamlatdar Bala Saheb Mirikar, son of Sardar Mirikar (Dev Exp) was about to take leave of Baba.

B.: “Do you know there is Dwaraka Mayi of ours”. Merikar was puzzled, as he did not know.

B.: “This is Dwaraka Mayi, in which you are sitting; This wards off all dangers and anxieties from her children. Highly merciful is this Masudi Ayi. She is the mother of all those, who place entire faith in her. She will save them, in the hour of danger. Once a person trusts her all his troubles are over.”

    B. (then giving udhi. added); “Do you know the elongated gentleman? (Baba extends both his arms at full length and moves one plam like the hood of a cobra). So terrible he is ! But what can it do against the children of Dwaraka Mayi ? If it appears, we shall be merely amused. When the Dwaraka Mayi protects, can the serpent strike?”

Baba ordered Shama to accompany Mirikar. At Chitali, at 9 p.m. that night, Mirikar, Shama and some peons were at the Maruti temple. Mirikar was reading newspapers. Suddenly the peon heard a rustling sound on the newspaper. The peon took a lamp and saw what it was.

A part of Mirikar’s upper cloth was on a newspaper and a serpent lay on that end of the cloth. The peon cried “snake, snake !”and it moved off from Mirikar. People gathered and clubbed it to death. Mirikar was only amused and not terrified.

535B. One day at Shirdi, Baba made dolorous Sankha sound (indicative of coming death) and said “Hallo, Nana is about to die. But will I let him die?”.

At that time N.G. Chandorkar and Lela Sastri were near Poona. They were in a tonga, the horse of which reared and overturned the tonga. N.G.C. and Sastri were in peril of their life. But they picked themselves up and found that they had suffered no injury. When they reached Shirdi, they found that Baba had made the above declaration and had saved their lives.

535C. R.V. Modak feared that a special examination was being held, wherein his appearance might be a means for elevation or the certain means of dismissal on the score of inefficiency. He went to Baba and Baba detained him so as to miss the examination at Bombay.

    At parting, Baba said “Go”

R.V.M.: “whither Baba? Home or Bombay?”

Baba: “Go home, your children are waiting for you.”

    (4) Abhayam (Ganda) to Buti

    536. Nana saheb Dengle (who was good at astrology) told Buti one day that there was Ganda, i e., danger to his life that day. Later both came to Baba.

B.: “what does Nana say? He sees death coming to you, eh? We have no need to fear. Strike! Strike! Let me see how you strike and kill.”

Later Buti went to ease himself and there saw a snake. His servant saw it and lifted up a stone. ‘A stick is safer and better’, said Buti. But before the stick came, the serpent moved away.

    V. CONSIDERATION FOR HEALTH

    537. Baba found Bala Shimpi on the road side, very ill with no one to attend to him. Baba had begged food in his (B.S’s.) house and was deeply attached to his family.

Baba told Bala Shimpi to go to Nana Saheb Dengle at Nimgoan. Nana Saheb had at that time a dream and Baba in that dream told him to undertake the care of Bala Shimpe, who would go to him. So when Bala went, he was cordially received and looked after by Nana Saheb Dengle.
