How to live in this materialistic world

Insights on how to live in this materialistic world, based on the Life and teachings of Shri Sai Baba

  1. Detachment from perishable things-
    • Sai Baba had no love for perishable things and was always engrossed in self-realization. He felt no pleasure in the things of this world or the world beyond.
  2. Contentment-
    • A man ought to enjoy whatever God bestows on him. He should firmly believe that God pervades everything. Whatever is given to him by God must be good.
  3. Accept whatever comes your way-
    • Believe that whatever happens is ordained by God, and is ultimately good.
  4. Avoidance of greed-
    • Unless one gets rid completely of avarice or greed, one will not get the real Brahma.
  5. Control the Senses-
    • Senses run after objects, but we should not follow them and crave for their objects.
  6. Offer your senses to God-
    • Before the senses, mind and intellect enjoy their object. Hence remember God, and if this is done, it is in a way an offering to Him.
  7. Seeing God in all beings-
    • The Upanishads, the Bhagwat Geeta exhort us to perceive God or Divinity in all the creatures.
  8. Equality
    • Treat rich and poor people the same. Sai Baba did not care for honor or dishonor.
  9. Differentiate between the Real and the Unreal-
    • Through His Udi, Baba sought to impart to the devotee the fundamental principles distinguishing between the Unreal and the Real. He underscored the importance of non-attachment to the Unreal.
  10. Keep the company of Saint-
    • The importance of the company of Saints is very great. It removes body-consciousness and egoism. It destroys completely the chain of birth and death. It cuts asunder all the knots of the heart. It takes one to God, Who is pure Consciousness.
  11. Have faith in Guru-
    • If you believe in Sad-guru’s holy feet, he can change your fortune for the better. If we make Him our Helmsman, we can easily cross over the sea of all our pains and sorrows.
  12. Remembering Guru-
    • Always remember that all actions are known to Sai Baba, who is the inner ruler of all and seated in their hearts
  13. Love all beings-
    • Sai Baba likes nothing but love to all beings.
  14. Inner focus
    • Direct your attention inwards and hold fast to the handle of knowledge. It waits patiently for you to grasp it and unlock the potential that lies dormant within.
  15. Perform prescribed duties-
    • Do your prescribed duty and surrender your body, mind and five pranas (life) to the Guru’s feet. Guru is God, all pervading.
